Brief Biography Dr. Flick began his teaching career at Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He taught advanced level courses, was Chair of the Mathematics Department, and Academic Vice-Principal. In 1989 he assumed his position as a member of Xavier University’s faculty. He has authored several books and numerous articles on education and was promoted to the rank of Professorin 2004. His many honors include the Ohio’s Presidential Award for Excellence, The Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics Outstanding Mathematics Teacher Award, the Sigma Xi Award for dedication to the teaching of mathematics and encouragement of research, the Leadership Scholars Champion Award, and the Disability Ambassador Award from the Postsecondary Education Collaborative. Mike has served the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics as State Contest Coordinator for over 40 years and authored a column for the Ohio Journal of School Mathematics. At Xavier University Mike served as Professor and Executive Director of the Education Centers (Center for Catholic Education and Center for Excellence in Education). He is also a past President of the Cincinnati Observatory Center and is Trustee Emeritus. The Cincinnati Observatory is a National History Landmark and the oldest observatory in the United States. It has a mission to promote science education and history/preservation. Mike also serves as National Chair of Education for the Astronomical League, a federation of astronomical societies. He has also served as President and Chairman of the Board of the GRACE Foundation and the Board Member of Notre Dame Academy. Mike retired from Xavier University January 1, 2024. Mike is a Kentucky Colonel, amateur astronomer, toy train collector and traction kite enthusiast.CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE
